P’yŏngch’ang Games

McCune–Reischauer romanization holdout that I am, I will use this post’s title to correct the Olympic venue not far from my old Far Eastern stomping grounds — PyeongChang games could be record cold- but why?

The good news is that “[o]n average during this time period, lows are in the teens and sea effect snow does fall, providing at least a half of foot of snowfall from February 9th through the 15th.” Snowfall was always in doubt during P’yŏngch’ang’s unsuccessful bids, but it should be remembered that these games follow “the Sochi Olympics where at times [the temperature] rose in to [sic] the 60s.”

Perhaps I will find time to trek north the three hours or so and visit — Lake Placid hosting monthlong Olympic celebration.
